Lovely Karaoke Apps for iPad

This won’t be for everyone, but Gleeks – fans of TV series Glee – will love the opportunity to sing along with their favourite songs from the show. Like Glee, the app is bright and colourful and is beautifully presented.

Plug in your iPad’s headphones with their built-in microphone, hit Sing and you’re ready to go. Choose a song from the list and the lyrics will scroll across the screen, while bars along the bottom will tell you which notes to hit. For the out of tune, pitch correction and harmonies make you sound like a real star and the more adventurous can try a capella or sing along to their favourite iTunes songs. Superb community features mean you can listen, rate, comment on and compete with fellow users and share your songs via social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

Despite all these positives, with only one tutorial song included and extra songs costing 59p each, this could turn out to be a very expensive app instead. So, although it’s a lovelylooking app with some great features, the potential costs are a major downside and could hamper the long-term enjoyment you’ll get from this singing sensation.

It’s a novel idea to bundle a karaoke machine into your iPad, and for the most part it lives up to this idea. There doesn’t need to be any air, nor does it really matter that the songs are cheap electronic reproductions – this is karaoke, after all. The presentation is cheap, however, which often carries over to the timing of the songs and the misspelling of the lyrics. The app is entertaining enough, but not worth the subscription cost that comes with it.
