We love the approachable nature of the app’s interface, complete with fun cartoon characters denoting the chicken, beef and lamb, pork, fish, pasta and vegetarian dishes. The first step is to choose exactly what kind of dish you want to make and the second step revolves around deciding on how much time you have to sort the whole thing out. You can choose from 20, 30 or 40 minutes before hitting the Go button and getting into the recipes themselves.
And there are dozens of them. There are 99 in chicken alone, each one listed with a large image of the final dish to show what each mouthwatering plate will look like in the end. Tapping on your choice gives you ingredients and instructions and while there is no video, there is a space to input your own notes. Each of the featured dishes also has nutritional information and there are tips on preparation. Ingredients can be added to a shopping list and the dishes can be shared via the usual channels of email, Twitter and Facebook. The recipes can also be added to a favourites section for future reference.
The sheer weight of the competition in the food app category is ensuring that the standard of many offerings is high. Goodtoknow is up there with the best and it’s good to see such an uncluttered approach to food. Presentation means so much for these types of apps and this one has it nailed. Best of all, the recipes in it are so easy to cook.
